tffCatchment Fisheries Plans (CFP) are being piloted to promote bottom-up fisheries management. They are nationally lead by the Angling Trust, and the National Rivers trust, and have the support of the National EA and Defra. They aim to gather and make accessible to stakeholder groups the information that already exists about their fishery. They aim to build consensus as to the state of the fishery and what needs to be done (including increased monitoring if need be) to meet the aspirations of the stakeholders. This balances economic and environmental priorities for the fisheries in a river catchment. It aims to provide a forum for local groups to ‘manage upwards’ based on local knowledge, experience and commitment.

Westcountry Rivers Trust has volunteered to lead a pilot Catchment Fisheries Plan on the Tamar.
